A Lichfield Architect is Taking on the London Marathon to Support Shelter and Raise Awareness.
This week’s Travelling Dave show took inspiration from Greece, celebrating the origins of the marathon ahead of this month’s London Marathon.
Among those taking part this year is a Lichfield architect marathon runner, Jack Felton, who is raising funds and awareness for Shelter, a charity supporting people experiencing homelessness.
Jack’s motivation comes from his own experience working on a local project.
Last year working for Friel Homes I worked on a project with Tabor Living in Birmingham, helping to provide emergency shelter for homeless people as well as providing support to help individuals back onto their feet. It really opened my eyes to how serious and widespread homelessness is across England — especially in the Midlands. Meeting people who had lost stable housing made the issue feel very real, not just something you read about. That experience has stayed with me, which is why I’m proud to be running the marathon for Shelter, helping to fight bad housing and homelessness.
In true “why not?” fashion, this marathon entry was slightly last minute (because clearly 26.2 miles is the kind of thing you decide to do on 8 weeks notice), but the cause couldn’t be more important. If I’m going to put myself through the miles, I’d love for it to make a real difference. Any support would mean a lot — both to me and to the people Shelter helps every day.
