Lichfield Discovered is a community heritage group run entirely by volunteers, dedicated to uncovering and sharing the stories, archaeology and hidden history of the city and its district.
Formed as a Community Interest Company, the group has become one of the most successful grassroots heritage projects in the area. Their reach is impressive, with more than 10,000 social media followers and over 1.6 million people engaging with their posts in the past year.
Best known for their lively storytelling on Facebook and Instagram, their tagline sums it up perfectly:

Their mix of research, humour and curiosity has built a dedicated following, eager to learn about everything from medieval legends and civil war battles to eccentric local characters.
The group runs guided walks, talks, workshops and their popular “Lantern Lectures”, giving people the chance to connect with history on their doorstep. Recent projects have included explorations of Lichfield’s role in the Civil War, archaeology finds evenings and history mornings at schools.
In 2025 Lichfield Discovered secured a permanent base at The Schoolmaster’s House on St John Street, a building dating back to 1682. The space will host exhibitions, open days, rotating displays and events, while also offering opportunities for the community to contribute their own stories and memories. The house itself is full of historic detail, from carved names in the attic dormitories to the original wood panelling and fireplaces.
With a dedicated team of volunteers, an ever-growing audience and a new home in one of the city’s landmark buildings, Lichfield Discovered is helping ensure the stories of the past continue to inspire the present.
