Lichfield District Council has been named UK Council of the Year at a prestigious national awards ceremony celebrating excellence and innovation in local government.
The award was presented at the iESE Public Sector Transformation Awards 2026, which recognise the people, projects and organisations delivering positive change for communities across the UK.
The awards highlight achievements in areas including digital innovation, partnership working, customer service, health and social care, emergency services and the environment.
Lichfield District Council was recognised for its work transforming services and delivering improvements for residents, guided by its LD2050 strategic plan.
The council has focused on becoming more agile, commercially minded and resident-led, with improvements across a range of services including customer services, planning, benefits, housing, environmental protection, leisure, regeneration and community initiatives.
The awards ceremony took place at Church House in Westminster, London, on Wednesday 4th March, where finalists gathered from across the country.
This year’s awards received 218 nominations from 88 public sector organisations.
The evening culminated in Lichfield District Council receiving the ceremony’s top honour — UK Council of the Year 2026, after judges praised the authority for demonstrating:
