A local charity that continues to make a real difference in the lives of young people with learning disabilities and additional needs is calling attention to two of its talented members who are hoping to make their mark on the radio.
Liberty Jamboree, a community-based charity, supports over 550 children, young people and adults aged 8 to 35. Based in the Midlands, the organisation works with individuals who have learning disabilities, are neurodivergent, or require additional support. Their mission is to help members lead more independent, fulfilling lives.
The charity runs a wide range of services and activities including youth clubs, inclusive sports, creative arts, life-skills programmes and volunteering opportunities. Family support services are also a key part of their offering, helping to reduce isolation and boost wellbeing for both members and their carers.
Now, two members of Liberty’s Day Opportunities Programme are stepping forward, hoping to share their talents with the wider community through radio.
One of them is a young man who is blind and works as a DJ and compère. He has already secured paid work through his performances and is eager to inspire others with his story. The other is a gifted young singer who regularly performs at local community events and is also gaining paid opportunities from his musical talents.
Liberty Jamboree is keen to highlight the impact of giving young people a platform to express themselves. A radio appearance, they believe, would not only build confidence and promote inclusion but also show the wider public just how much individuals with additional needs have to offer.
Charity leaders say opportunities like this help shift perceptions, challenge stereotypes and reinforce the importance of community support for all.
