Cannock Wood and Gentleshaw Musical Society (CWAGMS) is bringing a beloved community tradition to Burntwood this December with its latest production, The Railway Children Return Ticket. The show marks the company’s first Christmas season at Burntwood Memorial Hall following its move from the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock.
Running from December 10th to 13th, 2025, the new musical revisits the world of The Railway Children years after the original story. Audiences can expect familiar faces, fresh characters and a heartwarming festive twist set against the backdrop of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation.
Since the closure of the Prince of Wales Theatre, CWAGMS has relocated its performances to Burntwood Memorial Hall on Rugeley Road. The move ensures the continuation of a 48-year tradition of community theatre, bringing together volunteers, families and audiences from across Staffordshire.
Founded nearly five decades ago by local church families, CWAGMS has presented more than 90 productions and has built a strong reputation for supporting charitable causes both locally and abroad. The society’s shows have long been a fixture of the area’s cultural calendar, offering accessible, family-friendly entertainment rooted in community spirit.
Musical Director John Nicholls said the company’s relocation has only strengthened its commitment to the arts.
