Supporting Parkinson’s UK and local charities through We Love Lichfield

Catch the full 30-minute interview on Lichfield Radio and hear Richard’s story in his own words.
Lichfield Radio is proud to introduce a brand-new podcast episode featuring community champion Richard Winterton, in his first ever full 30-minute interview on the station.
As a valued sponsor of Lichfield Radio, Richard and the team at Richard Winterton Auctioneers continue to play a key role in supporting the local community across Lichfield, Burntwood and surrounding villages.
In this episode, Richard opens up about his upcoming London Marathon challenge, the deeply personal reasons behind it, and the charities close to his heart.
Richard is taking on the London Marathon this April, raising funds for Parkinson’s UK and local charity initiative We Love Lichfield. His motivation is deeply personal.
When you see someone full of life, and then it starts to slow down… it’s tough to watch.
Having seen both his father-in-law and his own father affected by Parkinson’s, Richard shares an honest and emotional insight into the realities of the condition, and why support organisations like Parkinson’s UK are so vital.
While the marathon is a huge physical challenge, it is also about raising awareness and supporting the wider community. Alongside Parkinson’s UK, Richard is also fundraising for We Love Lichfield, a charity that supports smaller, often overlooked local causes.
It’s the little charities that can get left behind. £500 here or there can make a huge difference.
The conversation highlights just how much is happening across Lichfield, Burntwood and nearby villages, from grassroots sports clubs to community initiatives that rely on local backing.
Having recently turned 60, Richard is taking on one of the biggest physical challenges of his life. From early morning runs along the canals to long-distance training sessions across the local area, he speaks candidly about the toll it takes, particularly managing a recent leg injury during training.
Despite this setback, his focus remains clear: to complete the marathon and make a difference.
The podcast also reflects a shared mission to celebrate and support the local community. From charity fundraising to raising awareness, this episode is a reminder of the incredible work happening across the district every day.
Richard has already raised thousands of pounds, with a target of reaching £5,000 and beyond.
If you’d like to support, you can visit Richard Winterton Auctioneers, donate in person at the Auction Café in Lichfield or the Fradley auction rooms, or contribute online via their website.

I was delighted to be the Richard’s first sponsor. I am sure he will smash it in record time.
