Plans for a new Linear Park that would create a green gateway into Lichfield city centre are set to be formally submitted next week, marking a key milestone in the regeneration of the Birmingham Road site.
If approved, the park would provide a new route linking Lichfield City Station with the city centre, creating a landscaped corridor where residents, visitors and families can walk, relax and spend time outdoors.
The proposed Linear Park, which would be around 23 metres wide, is set to include trees, hedgerows, footpaths, seating areas and natural play features, helping to bring more greenery and open space into the area.
It would also connect key destinations including the new cinema and plaza, future residential areas, the Lichfield Garrick Theatre and the historic city centre, making it easier for people to move between the station and local shops, culture and heritage.
The park forms part of Lichfield District Council’s long-term plans for the Birmingham Road site, alongside wider development in the area. The scheme would also include new lighting, street furniture and landscaping to enhance the route.
As part of the proposals, the existing car park and bus station would remain in place for the foreseeable future and would be redesigned to sit alongside the new green corridor.
Councillor Andy Smith, Lichfield District Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Major Projects, welcomed the plans.

As well as improving connections between the station and the city centre, the park will bring new trees, planting and wildlife habitats to the area, creating a space where both people and nature can thrive.
