The Earthy Stuff show is all about celebrating the people and ideas helping to shape a more sustainable future – and recent guest Claire Frame, aka The Creative Recycler, is certainly someone worth celebrating.
Interviewed by Jess, here, Claire shared the inspiring journey behind her brand – a story rooted in creativity, resourcefulness and a deep commitment to zero waste. What began as a passion has evolved into something truly special: a business that transforms what many would consider ‘rubbish’ into beautiful, functional, one-of-a-kind pieces.
From stunning lampshades crafted out of old bubble wrap to eye-catching bags made from discarded food packaging, and even waterproof zipped pouches created using old barcodes, Claire’s work is a powerful reminder that waste is often just untapped potential. In her world, nothing goes to waste – everything has the possibility of a second life.
Podcast host Jess described discovering The Creative Recycler as a breath of fresh air for, adding that it “will be a thrill for anyone on a journey of sourcing sustainable and eco-friendly products”. Claire spoke openly about what inspired her to start, how she brings her ideas to life and why this kind of innovative thinking is exactly what our planet needs more of right now.
Her journey into sustainable creativity has been shaped by a rich mixture of experiences – from living in Southeast Asia and embracing a tiny living lifestyle, to volunteering with a Precious Plastics workshop, and drawing on over 25 years in the graphic design industry. All of these influences have come together to form a business that is not only environmentally conscious but also deeply creative.
At the heart of Claire’s work is a simple but powerful philosophy: rethink how we use materials. By rescuing single-use plastics and overlooked items from landfill, she transforms them into unique, handcrafted designs that are as meaningful as they are beautiful. Her approach encourages us all to take action – to refuse unnecessary plastics, reuse what we already have, relove items through repair and upcycling, and recycle responsibly.
She can create dazzling commercial commissions as well as pieces for private homes, and every element of her work is carefully thought out. We love that her work is cruelty-free, with even the glues used being carefully sourced to include no animal products.
Excitingly, Claire is now taking her mission a step further by hosting hands-on workshops, where she teaches others how to create their own fabulous pieces from waste materials. It’s a chance not only to learn new skills but to see sustainability in action – and have fun while doing it.
