Lichfield Radio turns half-a-year old today – and there’s cake to prove it!
What began as little more than an idea – discussed by founders Scott Milligan and Ruth ‘Rockie’ Redgate on a dark football pitch while volunteering for the YMCA – officially launched on Monday 19 January.
Now, with the addition of around 40 (!) volunteers, it is becoming dangerously close to being described as a well-oiled machine!
“It’s amazing,” says Programme Director Ruth, “what mighty oaks can grow from acorns,” adding: “Little did either of us think it would grow so much, so quickly!”
Scott, who is Managing Director of the Echo Group, says this is especially impressive given the fact a decent number of the volunteers now involved “had never even sat in a radio station before”. He adds that their success in helping to take Lichfield Radio from where it began to where it is now is testament to their “passion” – both for the station itself and for the area of Lichfield, Burntwood and the surrounding villages more generally – and to their “love of what they cover”.
I am very proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short space of time.
That doesn’t just include the station – and all of its many (and increasing) number of shows.
The first issue of Lichfield Radio’s sister newspaper, Lichfield Echo, was printed at the beginning of May, and was similarly filled with local positivity. After all, there’s plenty of it going around!
A short while later, ‘Let’s Echo‘, our YouTube channel, was born, gaining an incredible 14,000 views in the first month alone!
And there’s still so, so much more to come – as if, as Ruth notes, “nearly 600 shows available on listen-back, over 30 visual podcasts, a growing YouTube channel and preparations for the second issue of the Lichfield Echo” isn’t enough!
