There was a real respect for the original music, but enough individuality to keep things interesting.
The last Sunday of April had a bit of magic about it in Lichfield, as the Acoustic Lounge returned to The Hub with a Beatles-themed evening – and it absolutely delivered.
From the moment you walked in, there was a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The Hub is the perfect setting for something like this – intimate enough to feel personal, but with just the right buzz of a local crowd who clearly love their music. It wasn’t just a gig, it felt like a shared experience.
The performers took on the huge task of reimagining songs by The Beatles – no small feat – and they did it beautifully.
Ruby Clark, Pete Winward and Becky Gosling were the performers this time around. Stripped-back acoustic versions gave a fresh perspective on classics we all know inside-out. There was a real respect for the original music, but enough individuality to keep things interesting.
Standout moments included some gorgeously delicate takes on the more reflective tracks – Becky’s rendition of Here, There and Everywhere certainly made me shed a tear! This was alongside a few upbeat numbers that had the audience gently singing along.
What really stood out was the connection between the performers and the audience. There was warmth, humour and a sense that everyone in the room was part of something special – even if just for a couple of hours!
This was, of course, aided by the superb hosting by Tom Roberts. With expert musicianship from the band under the direction of Gladstone Wilson, these nights are fast becoming a staple of The Hubs offerings.
Events like this remind you how lucky we are to have a local music scene in Lichfield that’s this vibrant.
Acoustic Lounge isn’t trying to be flashy – it’s simply about great songs, talented performers and a room full of people enjoying both.
