The Lichfield Festival of Music has doubled its number of entries in just two years, with amateur performers travelling from across the Midlands and even as far as Cornwall to take part.
The 2025 Festival also welcomed 10 choirs, reflecting the growing appetite for accessible, community-led music-making in and around Lichfield.
A Unique Place in Lichfield’s Cultural Calendar
Lichfield is fortunate to host a number of well-loved arts events, including the professional, ticketed Lichfield Festival and the open-air, community celebration Fuse Festival.
The Lichfield Festival of Music has a distinct focus. Now in its 49th year, it is dedicated specifically to amateur performance and music education. The Festival is held over three Saturdays each September, offering a structured, adjudicated platform where performers of all ages and abilities can develop their skills, gain stage experience and receive professional feedback in a supportive environment.
A Platform for Local Talent to Grow
The Lichfield Festival of Music provides an inclusive space where children, adults, schools, choirs and ensembles can perform, receive expert guidance from professional adjudicators and build confidence.
Run entirely by volunteers and deeply rooted in the local community, the Festival plays an important role in nurturing grassroots talent. By making the arts accessible and participatory, it complements the city’s wider cultural offering while focusing firmly on development and encouragement.
A Memorable 2025 Celebration
The 2025 event, held for the first time in the Hall and Sanctuary at Wade Street Church, culminated in a concert showcasing some of the highest-rated performers. Audiences enjoyed a wide variety of talent, including pianists, vocalists, folk guitarists, drummers, choirs and jazz saxophonists.
Feedback from performers, audience members and adjudicators has been overwhelmingly positive. Among the 200-plus festivals associated with the The British and International Federation of Festivals, Lichfield has built a reputation as a welcoming and supportive “friendly Festival”.
Looking Ahead to Next Year
If you play an instrument, sing, or perform as part of a choir or ensemble, the Festival offers a valuable opportunity to step beyond lessons and rehearsals. Performers gain experience in a safe, encouraging setting, along with constructive feedback that can help unlock new confidence and progress.
