Local Session Offers Clear Advice and Support for Those Caring for Loved Ones.
Unpaid caregivers from across Lichfield and the surrounding area came together on 23rd March for a practical and supportive Care Club session designed to help them better understand their legal rights while supporting loved ones.
The session – Understanding Care and Legal Rights: Advice and Q&A – was delivered by Grace Cares in partnership with legal specialists from Anthony Collins LLP.
It provided clear, accessible guidance for people supporting partners, parents, neighbours and friends, many of whom are navigating complex health and care systems without formal support.
Grace Cares, a Lichfield-based not-for-profit focused on making care more sustainable, runs Care Club as part of its wider work supporting older people and unpaid caregivers locally and nationwide. Alongside community sessions like this, the organisation rescues care equipment from landfill, redistributes it at affordable prices, and reinvests profits into tackling isolation and hardship.
Legal specialist Laura Jordan, Partner at Anthony Collins LLP, shared expert advice and answered questions on:
- Rights under the Care Act 2014
- Employment rights for caregivers
- Financial support and benefits
- Mental capacity and decision-making
- Housing and property considerations
- NHS Continuing Healthcare
- End-of-life and estate planning
The session created a welcoming and supportive space where attendees could ask questions openly and leave with clearer information and greater confidence.
Unpaid caregivers are the backbone of our communities here in Lichfield and beyond, yet many people don’t realise what support they are entitled to or where to turn for trusted guidance.
Care Club exists to make expert advice accessible, practical and human — so people feel more confident navigating the care system and less alone in doing so. Partnerships like this with Anthony Collins LLP help us bring specialist knowledge directly to the people who need it most. – Hannah Montgomery, Co-founder of Grace Cares
We know unpaid caregivers are often balancing work, family life and emotional pressures while making complex decisions for someone they love.
Understanding rights under the Care Act, access to funding, and planning ahead can make a real difference. It was a privilege to support Grace Cares in creating a space where people could ask questions openly and leave with greater confidence. – Laura Jordan, Partner at Anthony Collins LLP
Those who missed the session can still take part in a follow-up online Care Club event on 27th April at 9.30am. Anyone who registers will receive access to the recording, even if they cannot attend live:
