Hello my name is Joan I’m a volunteer facilitator for an organisation called Sobs which is survivors of bereavement by suicide.
I came across this organisation after our beautiful daughter Samantha ended her life after suffering ongoing depression she was 21. We all struggled to come to terms with what had happened, we felt so isolated bereavement from suicide is like no other. someone suggested we attend a group called sobs that offer support after suicide. We went along to the group and heard how other people had lost their loved ones and although we were so sad for them, it was such a relief that finally we could share our feelings and emotions with people who had suffered in somewhat the same way it really helped us knowing we could talk so openly.
Our groups help breakdown the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. They are for anyone over the age of 18. We meet monthly and you can talk openly without the fear of being judged. It is a safe place and confidential environment. If you don’t want to talk that’s fine you can gain relief from not feeling so alone.
We have organised a memorial that is solely for suicide loss, as we do not want to forget those we lost no matter how they died. This is to be held in Lichfields beautiful cathedral the memorial is for anyone has been touched by suicide whether you have faith or not.
This service will take place on Sunday 23rd of November 2025 to commemorate international survivors of suicide lost die the service was start at 5:30 pm. The closing date for seat reservations and photographs is 12 noon on Friday 14th of November if you would like a photo of your loved one to be included in the photo montage of those we have lost a suicide please email lichfield.memorial.uksobs.org
