Some great rallies and, more importantly, lots of smiles and laughter.

Locals turned out in full force for Women’s Squash Week in Lichfield in September, prompting talk of further development in the field.
Eleven new women showed up for Lichfield Squash Club’s ‘Hit, Mix & Mingle’ evening on Thursday 17 September at the King Edward VI Sports Centre. Organisers were later pleased to report that after a quick introduction, all the players got stuck in, and said “there was plenty of laughter, some excellent rallies and noticeable progress in a very short space of time”.

Club Chairman James Roberts told the Echo that “we were absolutely delighted with the turnout”.
The aim was to show that squash can be fun, sociable and accessible whatever your age or previous experience, and I think the evening did exactly that. It was particularly nice to see complete beginners playing alongside women returning after many years away.
By the end of the evening there were some great rallies going on and, more importantly, lots of smiles and laughter.
James said the next step “is to speak to everyone who attended and find out what they would like us to offer next, whether that’s a women’s social squash evening, a beginner coaching course or more opportunities to arrange games with players of a similar level”.
The Lichfield Squash Festival also returned on Saturday 26 September, bringing together club competition, junior squash, beginner-friendly sessions and, of course, a great community atmosphere.
