Visiting Angels creates an environment where carers feel valued to ensure top-quality care

A daughter’s personal experience of caring for her father has inspired a new home care service now officially operating across Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth. Harj and Hemani Gill have launched Visiting Angels, following successful registration with the Care Quality Commission. The couple are on a mission to provide compassionate, reliable care that enables people to remain independent and comfortable in their own homes.

For more than a decade, Hemani’s father relied on care and support at home. That experience ultimately shaped the values behind the couple’s new business.

“Without carers, day-to-day life for my parents simply wouldn’t have worked,” said Hemani.

We had some wonderful carers who became like part of our family, and I’ll always be incredibly grateful for the dignity, kindness and compassion they gave my dad.

But there were also frustrations. Carers would change, sometimes people didn’t know his routine or what mattered to him, and on occasions visits felt rushed. It made me realise just how important continuity, reliability and having enough time really are when you’re caring for someone.

That experience stayed with me, and when the opportunity came to do something about it, I knew I wanted to.

Both Harj and Hemani bring more than a decade of experience from the Witness Service, where they supported victims and witnesses navigating the court system. Their careers have consistently centred around supporting people during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

“Throughout our careers, we’ve always focused on people who are vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support,” said Harj.

When we decided to launch Visiting Angels, it was really important to us that care workers were at the heart of the business. We wanted to create an environment where carers feel valued, respected and properly supported, because we believe that has a direct impact on the quality of care families receive.

Visiting Angels’ ‘carer-centric’ approach sets it apart from other companies in the in-home care sector. By offering financial rewards, ongoing training and opportunities for career development, Harj and Hemani are committed to addressing industry challenges that frequently leave caregivers feeling undervalued and underappreciated.

At the heart of the new service is Registered Manager Tiegan Norris, who is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of care and supporting the team to maintain the high standards expected of a Care Quality Commission-registered provider.

“We want every person we support to feel that they are genuinely known and listened to,” said Tiegan.

Care should never feel like a series of tasks. It’s about building relationships, understanding what matters to someone and supporting them to live the life they want to live.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of a service where quality of care and the experience of the client really are at the centre of everything we do.

The team has also begun building strong links within the local community, engaging with organisations and groups supporting older people, people living with dementia and their families.

“This isn’t just about running a business,” said Hemani. “It’s about doing something that genuinely makes a difference to people and their families.”

I’ve experienced first-hand the reassurance that good care can bring. When you know someone you love is being looked after by people you trust, it makes such a difference to the whole family.

We want families across Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth to feel that same reassurance.

Harj added: “We’re incredibly proud to officially bring Visiting Angels to our local community. We know there are many care providers out there but, for us, it comes back to something very simple – treating people as individuals, giving carers the time and support they need and providing care we would be happy for our own family to receive.”
